M. Emanuela Piemontese, professore ordinario, insegna Didattica delle lingue. Dal 1° nov. 2007 a luglio 2010 è stata direttore del Dipartimento di Studi Filologici Linguistici e Letterari dell’Università di Roma “La Sapienza”. Ha collaborato alla progettazione e realizzazione di “dueparole. Mensile di facile lettura” (www.dueparole.it). E' Presidente di “Parlar Chiaro. Associazione per la semplificazione della comunicazione di interesse pubblico” e del mensile di informazione e cultura “Otto pagine” per bambini e ragazzi della scuola dell’obbligo del Municipio XX del Comune di Roma. Inoltre si occupa di: scrittura; leggibilità e comprensibilità dei testi scritti; di semplificazione del linguaggio amministrativo; di comunicazione efficace. Ha fatto parte del gruppo di lavoro che, per il Dipartimento della Funzione Pubblica, ha prodotto il Codice di Stile (1993) e il Manuale di Stile (1997). Tra i suoi lavori ricordiamo l’indice di leggibilità Gulpease (1988) e il volume Capire e farsi capire. Teorie e tecniche della scrittura controllata (1996). Fa parte del Coordinamento scientifico-didattico e del Comitato scientifico della Summer School Sapienza.
